My favorite site is HouseCarers. it  is an international meeting place for those offering, and those looking for, house-sitting positions. There is a low annual fee( the price of a meal for two people) to join, however, you can sign up with them for free and explore the offerings, though you will not be able to apply for positions until the fee is paid.  Each housesit is unique regarding the duties and what is paid for .  Typically the rent and utilities are covered in exchange for your care .  Sometimes there are added bonuses including food, cash to earn ,  especially in the case of animal  care. Through this site I did  house sit in Australia for three months where I watched a home and an organic garden.  Prior to that I  did a house sit in Canada for three months and cared for the property and the home while the house was on the market.  Both locations were beautiful .In addition, I  have also done local house-sits here in CA.

The Help Exchange is another worldwide organization for bringing property owners (even boat owners ) and volunteers together. The primary focus of this organization is the "working holiday" concept. This website is international and free to use .  The amount of resources here would deserve an entire page of their own .   You have the option to browse there or post ads seeking what you want . I will point out the highlights:

Free section -My favorite place ;here you can find anything , I mean anything . I never buy anything new , besides toilet paper and underwear :)  Over the years,  I have acquired the following items using this section :  violin and case , a car , a bed , an inversion table , cell phones, cameras, yoga equipment, dishware, t.v's, dvd players, an array of furniture ,      People who are moving or downsizing want to give stuff away as opposed to dumping it or paying for it to be hauled away .  If you do not see what you want or need , post an ad to the Items Wanted ( Ask and you Shall Receive )section .  The process to post is easy.  It is free to have an account.


Barter/Trade :
People offer each other services . I have seen people offer their roofing services for wine , child-care for massage,a room free rent for caregiving ( also see the domestic gigs section for this ), food for dog-walking .  Personally , I have traded for free rent, free food, free chiropractic ( I was his fill-in secretary for adjustments), for propane, for a vehicle ,,,,,,,, the possibilities are endless .  People need each other and it is happening !

Be sure to check out rideshare section .  People offer rides everywhere !
Sometimes they offer it for free , if you share the driving .
